Lots of Fame, No Fortune (Yet)
It’s time for a new design contest! This one isn’t for everyone, though. The prizes are significant exposure for your company, not cash or merchandise, so if greater visibility isn’t reward enough you’ll want to sit this one out.
Still here? Good. Here are the details.
Nursing Jobs.org is the #1 ranking site for nursing jobs across all major search engines (though it appears to have dipped to #2 on MSN today), and it gets 35,000+ visitors every month. I also happen to be one of the owners.
We’re spinning up a new sister site called Nursing Voices to highlight some of the best nursing bloggers on the web. We’ve already begun the process over at www.nursingjobs.org/voices/, but we’re looking to turn that into its own site now. (Warning: If you’re offended by bad design, don’t click that last link. It’s pretty scary.)
Contest Requirements
The contest is to design the Nursing Voices site. The easy thing is, it’s only one page. That’s it. We’re simply summarizing and linking out to other blogs, so people won’t be hanging around. We only need a single page to:
- List excerpts of blog entries.
- Summarize the purpose of the site.
- Summarize what blogs are included.
You can get actual details on all that information at the current Voices page.
All you’ll need to submit is a single-image design for that one page — no HTML or CSS is required.
Reward
All entries that I think have a real shot will be posted on the main contest page (not live yet) along with full details on the designer and a link to their site. The winner will not only receive recognition here on UMS (as well as a permanent spot in the Gallery, if appropriate), but they will also be credited prominently on Nursing Voices for as long as we use the design — giving them continued exposure to tens of thousands of potential clients every month.
How to Enter
To enter, send a self addressed, stamped envel…just kidding. All you need to do to enter is email the image to nvcontest [at] unmatchedstyle.com, along with a brief description and link to your company.
All entries must be received on or before March 20. I realize that’s not much time, but it’s not a huge project either. I will extend the deadline if we don’t have any great designs by then, but I have a lot of confidence that we will.
If you have any questions, post them below.
Let the games begin!
Update: I’ve gotten a design now that I will be happy to go with if I don’t receive any better submissions, so the deadline of today, March 20, will not be extended. Get them in before midnight tonight!

Sounds like a great contest. I like what you’re doing with UMS since it’s purchase :)
I’ll be working on a design in my sparetime next week. should be fun even if it doesn’t get picked.
Only 5 days to get an entry together? Well, everyone likes tight deadlines, don’t they? ;)
You’ve piqued my interest with this contest. I’ve been working on an entry.
Of course that means I’ll have to whip my portfolio site into shape!
Congratulations on the acquisition of US by the way. I’m enjoying the direction you’ve been heading.
meashman, thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to what you come up with! I’ll hold off on the link until you get your own site ready :)
Do you still want that navigation bar included in the layout with all of those links?
Also, how many designs can we submit?
No, that nav bar isn’t necessary. We’ll have a link or two back to Nursing Jobs.org, but they won’t be that prominent.
You can submit as many designs as you like. As long as they all have the potential to win, I’ll get them live for everyone to see.
I’m interested in this contest as well.Is there a time frame on design submissions?
[…] Back in March, UnmatchedStyle held a design contest for redesigning NursingVoices. It was the first — and only — design contest that I have participated in. […]
