I've seen a few of these sites with the static logo element or the entire side of the design (as in this one). It is a nice effect when done well, as in this design.

Nice news-type website, overall it's pretty straight-forward and clean. The top horizontal navigation is what i'm focused on, it is just really nice, subtle and effective. That entire header region is just well done. What is also funny is their alternate IE stylesheet is called "ie_bites.css"...

There's really not a lot going on with this website, other than it is just a really nice design. The colors are nice and fit well with the overall feel/photos and it's generally well executed. It's not going to win awards but certainly worthy of a mention and ...

I've followed the design of this particular website for almost 5 years now, it's always been top-notch, and this recent (though I don't know how recent) redesign is nothing short of it's legacy. Great design here.
