4C’s Ltd.
![]()
Wow. How many things is the 4C’s Ltd. website a good example of? Off the top of my head:
- CSS-based Development — they have some very correctable errors on the homepage, but I did say “good example,” not necessarily “great.”
- Design — that’s just a good looking [tag]website[/tag].
- Search Engine Optimization — very nice job of focusing on their keywords (e.g. plumber in London) without making the copy too stilted.
- Differentiation in a Commoditized Market — just exactly what Tom Peters wrote about in The Pursuit of Wow!
- [tag]Flash[/tag] Integration — nice use of Flash to add interest and movement to the page without being obtrusive.
What have I missed? Am I wrong on any of these? Take a look, and then let us know what you think!

Your 5 points are ok - the web site is build well and pretty. But IMHO it just doesn’t look like plumber website.
Text doesn’t fit in the boxes for me in Safari. The developer could do with reading Bulletproof Design by Dan Cederholm to get some expanding boxes in there.
Beautiful site, but needs a few adjustments :)
Hi there,
This is a website which succeeded in spiking my interest over the last couple of weeks, and I’m a big fan of what they have created here.
In response to Piotrek saying “it just doesn’t look like a plumber website”, I think this can only be a good thing. Looking around at other plumbing websites, the majority are obvious “5 minute” jobs with little thought put into the design.
By going against the trend and giving this website a very solid and professional look & feel, this can only help in giving their audience the confidence that their work will be up to the same standard. Plumbers in England generally have a bad reputation, with many publicised incidents on tv involving “cowboy” builders and plumbers - so this is a good way of helping their customers have trust & faith in contracting this company.
However, as Callum alluded to - the code unfortunately doesn’t match up with the solid & professional look.
Don’t get me wrong - the code isn’t THAT bad, but there are the odd sections where graphics and extra spans are used for certain effects, which really should have been achieved with CSS and less bloated code.
As Callum pointed out (again), the boxes are a real problem as they have a fixed height applied to them. This means resizing the text either breaks the design, or the words simply flow and disappear below the fold. This effect could easily have been achieved by giving each box/div a border and then an H1 inside that holds the header graphic/background-color. Having said that, achieving multiple equal height boxes can be a pain to create which I’ve written about recently. ;o)
Overall, a very nice looking site, but falls down on a few coding faux pas’. 7/10 in my book.
What ever you think about this site it certainly beats the competition hands down.
