Bloklantis

Bloklantis made me chuckle at first. I thought to myself upon loading the page “What is this, another Web 2.0 application?” I said this because it seems that use of pink is virtually a requirement for every Web 2.0 app. However, it was not this…it’s not an application at all, but rather, a nice looking blog.
Combining two things I’m not very fond of — a dark background and a lot of pink; this design still manages to stick out to me. Much of it would have to be the simplistic set up with the subtle graphical insets to give dimension to the design while managing to separate sections of the site in a sensible fashion.
I haven’t mentioned a gripe I have with a design here in a very long time because I have an extreme sense of fear that someone will take my constructive criticism the wrong way (as it has been done before). However, the “Categories” section looks really lonely at the bottom if the page. Had it spanned the length of both the main content and sidebar it would not seem so misplaced, but spanning just the content area and having so much white space next to it makes it seem a little out of place.
Other than that it is a gorgeous design.

It’s about time. I was expecting to see this one here. Nice choice!
[…] last 3 days have been a madhouse here at Bloklantis. Since I’ve been included in the Unmatched Style gallery the visits to Bloklantis have […]
Nice work! Looks pleasant and I know it’s pretty hard to make a readable site using light text on dark bg. I also really like way “http://” is added to website field of the comment form… one of the things many designs (me included) forget. I find myself wondering almost with every single comment form how should I put my url, with or without http.
Few things I would change though. The effect of changing link color on hovering over a paragraph (firefox) is a bit annoying. Atleast I have a habit of moving my mouse close to the paragraph I’m reading and the effect makes the site feel jumpy. Also “continue reading” link shouldn’t be a block level element, can lead to “accidental” clicks…
So, when these are the only problems found… quite a perfect site!
I can’t believe how highly rated this site is. It looks like one of those amateurish *free blogger* templates. The categories– for no reason at all– are shoved at the bottom of the page as if they were an afterthought, and in my browser, the text runs up flush against the left edge! Hmmm…
It’s very nice theme!
