Dizzain.com

The honor of last Gallery entry of 2006 goes to New York Website Design Company, Dizzain.com. This is a beautiful site and accomplishes what I always say is most important about a design company’s site: it gives me a confidence that they know what they’re doing.
I love the color scheme, the underwater theme, and just about everything else about this site. In fact the only thing that catches my eye that isn’t my favorite is what the homepage looks like when I expand my browser all the way. I’m just not crazy about this particular Liquid Layout. Other than that, though, I really like this site. Notice, too, the highly descriptive DIV IDs :)
So now it’s your turn to decide whether this site stays in the Gallery or not. I’ll take the star rating into account a little bit (it’s actually working again now; sorry about the downtime), but much more weight will be given to actual opinions that are expressed. So if you have an opinion, don’t just rate the site, let us know why you rated it like you did!

Very interesting site. Finally something fresh. Great combination of elegant graphics and CSS.
I am a bit surprised with the HTML structure. Header and main navigation are placed below content and footer – nice move!
Also icons for each work in the portfolio look amazing. I wonder if it’s a clipart work or a true 3D?
Personally, I won’t be ashamed to order a web site from them and have their copyrights on the bottom=).
I know this company… There work for Laptop Magazine was great, I’ve been visiting that web site for quite a few years and noticed the difference Dizzain.com made to it.
New Dizzain.com looks very nice comparing to the old site. You can see their skills growing.
It’s a nice blend of colors, and definitely pleasing to the eye. The underwater theme is clever, and the better part about the way they’ve set it up is that they could change the header on a whim and it would completely change the feel of the page.
The graphic elements of the site are simply outstanding, and would definitely inspire confidence in me if I were to hire them.
A few gripes though:
- The search feature is in the middle-right hand side of the page, or the bottom right on some. This isn’t such a great idea. If you want people to use the search feature, you don’t want them searching every page to find it. I would suggest putting the searchbox in the currently unused space on the right hand side of the menu frame.
- The menu links are kind of small. It’s not a gigantic problem, but I think it would make more sense if the links for each part of the site on that menu bar extended from the top of the bar to the bottom. Also it might help to make the current page stand out a little more on the bar apart from just a line underneath it.
- When the page resizes to a certain width, the main content gets buried underneath the left. This is most likely due to the liquid layout they have opted with. However, a min-width for the .noticeRightContent and .noticeRightContentLargeLarge styles would serve well in most standards compliant browsers.
For IE it would be a bit trickier to rectify I think. Maybe a fixed-width transparent image as a horizontal rule at the top of the content.
- The header takes up quite a lot of screen real-estate when you load the page. Then again, it certainly works for the theme, and it’s not as annoying as it might be if it were any less stunning.
Overall a really beautifully crafted site, and I really like it.
That’s one hell of a lot of divs though :P

[…] Sites like Dizzain.com are an easy addition to the Gallery. There are others, though, that I’m more unsure of. Today’s entry, snagt, is one of those. […]
