Dress For Dialogue

Dress For Dialogue

Dress For Dialogue feels like a classic layout, yet it incorporates a modern twist. Using a background color not often seen and white as the foreground color; this design takes a chance. However the selection of colors have managed to pay off.
Aside from choice colors, this site does something else not seen to often; the transition from the main content to the “sidebar” is minimal, using only a less saturated shade of the background color to distinguish the difference. This minimal offset seems to make everything flow together quite smoothly.

My initial reaction to this site when I saw it awhile ago, was “Wow, strong.” The red is a very bold color to be greeted by as the page loads. But, upon further examination, one realizes that this is the entire point of the author’s statement, “We all have something to say.”

I especially like the “Tone Shift” green box, as it not only is a change in color, but is a word-play, meaning if you click external links, the tone of the topic/discussion changes. All in all, very cleverly done.

I agree with Nathan. The red and black color scheme is very bold and instantly informs you what the style of the page is. However, I dislike the disorganized look of the page - the vertical navigation isn’t to my liking, and the mouseover logo at the top is awkward if not downright disruptive.

    Everything else is excellent.

This site looks like it’s been thrown together in a hurry. The typography looks amaturish and they have used free “wanabe” fonts from fontfreak. The flipped navigation at the top looks disjointed. They have clearly been influenced by the heads of state site. Sorry but this is poor work.

I’m not too crazy about this design. I agree with caroline about the poor typography. What’s worse is the way full articles and the comments look. The text is not really easy to read on the bright red background and the comments look messy with gravatars and comment-footers floating in space .

The first impression is rather cool but upon further inspection there are some disappointments to be found IMHO.

I’m with marco & Caroline. This design looks amatureish. The code throughout is a really bad mess and the layout is disjointed. There has been little attention to placement with many items floating outside the layout and the typography is like a dogs breakfast. I would not have linked it but that’s my opinion.
