Expression Engine

Recently redesigned by 31Three.com, the Expression Engine site has taken a turn for the better—to say the least. Jesse at 31Three was tapped to redesign not only the Expression Engine website, but the entire (and new) Ellislab Network of sites (including EE, EngineHosting, EllisLab, and CodeIgnitor).
Once again we witness a layout and structure that is unbelievably flexible. One might be as tempted to say this is becoming a new trend with websites. The basic structure is the same, design cues like color and other site-specific details make each design just a bit different from the rest. Considering the fact that Ellislab (the renamed company that brings us the publishing platform Expression Engine) now heads up a network of four complementary sites, the unifying theme does more than one would presume.
What I like best about the EE site is the amount of content and style that went into the homepage, especially above the fold. Using a tabbed welcome mat of sorts, the homepage accomplishes more than five separate pages would. That takes great architecture and design skills to accomplish as well as Jesse did with this design.
