Indie Anthems

Indie Anthems

This is a cool little blog dedicated to music from independent artists. In its own words:

[F]orget the mainstream rubbish out there and look into the world of indie music. It’s not all about record labels and magazine cover pages, it’s all about raw talent and bangin’ tunes! But it’s not very easy to keep up with the greatest and smallest genre of music, so I setup this site to keep everyone up to date with news and provide a platform through which you can come into contact with the best new bands.

The site was designed by Chris Garrett, who has designed many other sites as well. I love it because it manages to look cool while still being very easy to read. It’s also a textbook example of the current style in web design.

Maybe best of all, he’s customized the WordPress template so much that it’s basically unrecognizable as WordPress. That’s refreshing in this day of so many cookie-cutter blogs. If you run a blog, you could learn a lot from the design of Indie Anthems. I particularly like the treatment of the “Leave a Reply” box and the comments.

its a great website, well designed and well coded.
i personally dont like websites that are shifted to the right or left (or NOT shifted to the center ;) ), it messes up the order and organiztaion also it feels like its floating around …. if you get what i mean

HA! That was actually one of the things that I didn’t like about the site. Glad to see I’m not the only one with that preference :)

This is really nice, clean, effective, nice use of typography. I’m also not a fan of the left alignment, seems out of place unless the design is liquid, and this particular design would probably look really good centered. Otherwise though I really like it, the minimal use of color and good use of space are just yum.
