I take a bad rap just about every time I do this. And if you’re not fond of it, I’ll let you know that I am not happy of listing a site that has been mentioned and showcased elsewhere. However, if there is something I dislike even more than listing a site that can be found elsewhere is letting quality design like this go unmentioned on Unmatched Style for that reason alone.
The design Jake Tracey uses on his Blog is a Liquid Layout, and it is one of the most famously implemented liquid layouts I have seen to date. In addition to its great liquid layout, the site also separates all the different content it is trying to display to the reader in a straightforward, easy-to-use and well thought-out manner.
Also adding to the luster of Jake Tracey’s design is its use of visual effects. They can be spotted when navigating through the sidebar. The simple fade-in effect on each tab really sets this off. Rather than appearing immediately upon click, a half a second transition from one pane to the next is present — making it seem a little less jumping than if it were to be displayed right away.
If that isn’t enough for you, also looking at his “Projects I am Working on” which can be located in the footer of the page I came across something called Chalk. Upon clicking the link I was brought to a site with a single blog entry and a form that let’s me know when Chalk is released. But that single blog entry contains a screen shot and words that I find more than interesting.
What I read and can see gives me clues that Chalk is going to be a lot like Backpack, but with some more features and better implementation of current ones. Sounds like another really sweet web application is just around the corner. We’ll add this to my list of things I want along with Writeboard and Mint.

Looks like you’ve Slashdotted him, I can’t get to the site!
Great redesign, by the way - I must have missed the announcement.
Me neither, can not connect to the site.
I believe it is a new breed of slashdotting that is a result of being in Unmatched Style, Stylegala, and 9rules within 24 hours!
Sorry about that guys, should be fine now!
Well, what we can tell you is that Chalk is a collaborative application like Basecamp or Backpack, but that is where the similarities end.
Chalk operates in real-time and feature a number of collaboration tools for users participating in a Chalkboard session. All this using any modern web browser (IE 5.5+, FireFox and Safari) and technologies such as AJAX, CSS2/3 and Web 2.0 DHTML.
We promise you’ll love it.
This is definitely a very good website both design- and content wise. Love the layout and the tastefull effects. Simply the best I’ve seen in a long time; thanks Jake.
well done!
Great Design! Personally, I always seem to fall back into liking this simplistic styles which don’t have any large, out of the way graphics or everything moving about in flash.
Just look plain great!
Fantastic design.
Whoah! I must admit that often I’m not all that fond of the whole liquid design bandwagon but this one is really good. My only comment would be that when you resize the window in Firefox some weird sizing issues appear every once in a while. Sometimes there are gaps between the main areas and the comments area sometimes appears to be 1 or 2 pixels too wide. Upon further resizing this can disappear or reappear again. Weird but not really disturbing though. Great work!
One of the most elegant examples of liquid resizing I have seen. Great job.
