OUTLOG

Herzliche willkommen zu unseren Deutschen freunden!
That’s right, we go back across the ocean today — this time to OUTLOG in Germany.
I picked this one mainly because it is just so striking. Here again, the thumbnail doesn’t do it justice. You definitely have to visit. I’m sure this technique has been used before, but I’ve either never seen it or never seen it used as well as this site does. It makes me feel like I’m sitting outside reading on a fantastic day, which is something I love to do.
There are two other things in particular that I like as well. One is that it’s a very lean 14,930 bytes — very nice. The other is that it’s a Liquid Layout. Whatever your browser size, it fills it quite naturally — not an easy thing to do.
The design comes courtesy of DECAF°, also in Germany, an agentur fur digitale kommunikation.

“Danke für die Blumen” (I think you would say “thanks for all the fish” (Doug Adams)) and this pretty nice text!
Best regards from Berlin!
_Dirk (DECAF)
P.S.: You really have to listen to Gordon, who has recently been featured on this OUTLOG-page. Irishman with acoutic guitar and hell of a voice! Perhaps try “work it out” first:

Nice site, gives me the creeps looking at that beetle thingy though. *shudder*
It won’t bite ;-)
Thanks!
I like it. I too like the outside feel to it. I see at the bottom “Script by Alex 2003.” Has this site had this design since then? Either way, it’s a great design, and definately worth keeping!
Chris, no, the design has been done a few days ago. The weblog had started in 2004 in order to support Frank, the author, within his trip to Japan and Australia. Since then, it changed his theme for a several times and is now ready for a new summer ;-)
Thanks!
i dont really like the website, its toooo plane for me
heading backgrounds arent that good looking, and i REALLY hate insects
Sasan, nevermind. Thanks for your reply!
I fail to see how this website stands out. A static background image with content right-aligned?
Seriously. The code is decent, but what’s so special about it? I can whip up something like that in 10 minutes. It’s hardly unique, doesn’t represent much technical nor artistic talent, and the page is just plain boring.
And what are you talking about liquid designs not being an easy thing to do? They’re hard to do when you have multiple columns and tons of content. In this case, when you just have one column of content, it’s incredibly easy and painless.
How the hell does float: right; and position: static; make it onto the gallery?
im sorry if i sounded mean , its just my 2cents anyway :)
who am i to say a website is good or bad :-]
Alex, glad to see we have a variety of opinions represented :)
Alex, you’re right, the side had been done in a few hours. Its claim was not to be outstanding but focused on the essence and reduced to the max. Its special feature is just to require little work as possible in order to get the most fun out of it. And I think this aim has been achieved right along the way.
Thanks for your reply!
Sasan, it didn’t sound mean but honest. That is what we want and especially is what Shane wants, I think.
Regards!
The best design of my todays web surfing!
Goog for you.
