The Traveling Guys
![]()
The Traveling Guys is a beautiful [tag]blog[/tag] about, you guessed it…some guys who are traveling. Using a photo of the countryside as the background and meshing the photo with colors that work well with it pay off on this design.
It utilizes sIFR in combination with a serif font giving the fonts a smoother look. Usage of this particular font in conjunction with the colors that were chosen give off the feel of a map to me. I guess when you’re The Traveling Guys it is good to have a map, because just as design, winging it usually isn’t such a good idea with travel either.

Nice looking concept. Weak code job.
Code sucks bad…. tsk tsk tsk
Code is weak, but the design is great.
nice design… horrible on modems though
From what I read, this site was designed and coded in less than 3 weeks. KUDOS!!
3 weeks is plenty of time to write clean code…if you know how. Shit, 3 days is plenty time to build a site with clean code …if it’s all you have to work on.
Anyways, I like the design but the typography (especially of the blog entries) could use some work.
Got to agree with the group…really nice design, sloppy code. Good news is that it isn’t so messy that it wouldn’t be a big deal to go back and clean it up.
Wow. Didn’t realize this site was listed already!
For all those of you who take issue with my code, let me try to explain.
1) I agree, the code work needs SERIOUS cleanup
2) My priorities were getting the site live as fast as possible, then going back through the code to tweak and clean
3) 3 weeks IS typically plenty of time to put together a site if your full time job is web design. My full time job is as an in-house print designer and all web design work is done in evenings and on weekends. On top of this my wife and I are expecting our first child in a couple of weeks, oh and we’re closing on a house. Lee and Patrick (the Traveling Guys) were very gracious in understanding my time restraints and accepted the fact that the site would launch imperfectly… and I would sweep back through in the coming weeks (as time permits) to clean up my act.
4) This may all sound like excuses, but honestly I didn’t expect this site to get listed so fast… honestly, in about 3 weeks most of the junk you’re seeing will be fixed/gone/cleaned.
Thanks for the kudos in regards to design.
The site is very enjoyable with plenty to check out. I liked the use of flash for the maps. The fact that the site is heavy on images is also very nice, seeing as how it is a travel log. What would a travel log be without nice pictures?
ewww nice! Love how the design seems captures their vision. Interesting comments on the code. I’ll have to take a look at it after I’m done but still soaking the content and design. Overall, pretty slick.
the design is so great.well done!!!
I’m not one of the HTML nazis that must nit-pick on everything; I have to say, the design is sexy.
Fantastic design. Very clever image rendering and text rendering, and the Flash map of where they are is great.
Fantastic design.very sexy.
Nice site!… Did you notice the “Our Mission” block, bottom right corner your image is a bit “off” by 1 or 2 pixels.
Good design, but theres an error if you view it in safari, there is a gap of about 8 pixels between the flash map and the bottom graphic of the map
Excellent design. Really lovely. The use of Sifr is great as well. Code can be fixed, bad design cannot. This site looks really great and after some code cleanup it’s a real killer!
[…] Golden Pride Children’s Color to me is on the same lines as The Traveling Guys, design wise. It uses an approach to design that you don’t […]
Nice design, only problem is that with Opera 8.5 (just released, I know) the background image doesn’t show up and a scrollbar at the bottom is shown.
Aside from that, I like it.
Melissa said “with Opera 8.5 (just released, I know) the background image doesn’t show up and a scrollbar at the bottom is shown.”
Mel? Did Josh develop Opera 8.5? No. So are you blaming him or the Opera developers?
Ok, I am a student in web design just on my 3rd class, so what is wrong with the code? It looked like vallid xhtml to me. I am using these sites to study and would really like to have somebody tell me why this is considered messy or not so good. It looks great! Most visitors are not going to pull the view source down as they aren’t designers just users. So for study purposes please tell me why the code is considered sloppy. Thank you. This is meant in sincere earnestness.
jen — I’m assuming the code has been cleaned up since those original comments.
Very interesting website. Far more fun and informative then usual travel blogs and similar sites, thumbs up!
The logo reminds me to The Conquerors. The aoe2 extension.
I like it very much.. It is interesting, eye and spirit catching.. When first page opened I was as excited as I’m leaving for a travel, just now!
Good work, beautiful design.. Smart!
Thumbs up for your mission guys!
Very nice design, a good travel blog with more beautiful scenary.
