Twisted Melon

Twisted Melon

Twisted Melon is a site I felt sure would sail through TU/TD. It’s a fantastic looking site, it doesn’t use Flash where it could use HTML/CSS, and it validates XHTML Strict. It only scored a 6.8 out of 28 votes, though, so I’m moving it to the Gallery to get some dialogue going.

It you voted “no” on this site, why was that? If you voted “yes,” chime in with your reasons, too. For my part, I obviously feel it belongs here, but tell us what you think.

well done. very nice, i liked the pot. the point is, this site is not clean enough. there are too many warnings under the news and help sections. there is a blue line, i dont know what it is, appears when the links are active, as well as it can be seen if you move your mouse over the pot and the main logo

Overall it’s a nice design with good navigation, but there is no solid feel to the website. For a start, what does ‘Twisted Melon’ have to do with anything, there isn’t a hint of ‘melon’ on the website, furthermore the logo looks like a light bulb? The ‘Freshly Squeezed’ banner is also very random and looks like an after thought.

I think the definition in the company link explains things very well. The logo looks like a melon with a spiral around it (and a small lightbulb piece at the bottom). The squeezed likely has something to do with squeezing melons.

But what do any of these things (the comments above) have to do with the site layout and design? It’s clean and well thought out.

I’m lost for words as to why the people before me have negative comments to make. Especially when talking about such ridiculous things as the name of the site…

In my opinion, this has got to be one of the most refined sites I’ve seen in quite a while.

I LOVE the navigation, and the nice little touches of having the leaves on the side of the page is fantastic - I always love those little (and unrequired) touches.

You can tell there’s been an awful lot of work gone into this website - and many perfectionist touches which I can completely relate to.

The rounded corners on just about everything and right column are great victories - I like this a lot if you can’t tell…

Well done mate - you’ve been the first to impress me in quite a while :o)

Yeah, I like the design very much, it looks and feels great, although as Dan said I think “Freshly squeezed” banner stands there for nothing. It looks like it was added just because corner fixed position tags look cool. And I don’t like this layout made with a TABLE tag.

The only negative things I could say about the site are that it wasn’t apparent to me straight away what the site was for (Although this isn’t always a bad thing) and I find the corner banner a bit old now. - maybe it is just a little cluttered.

I loved the pot at the bottom though and really liked the feel of the site (fresh, exciting). I think most of my clients would love something like this (where appropriate) and personally I’d be proud to produce something of this quality.
