Whitespace

Whitespace

When you take one of the most popular sites of the web design community, and somehow to make it better than it was, you got skills. Personally I am still trying to adjust to the change, but I will get there within time. Also after the redesign Paul also implemented sIFR on the site which makes it all the more clean.

Fantastic work as usual from Paul.

  1. Heh, thanks a lot man. sIFR is definitely something that can help take a site to the next level. Hopefully I am done with this design for a looong time :-)

  2. Congrats Paul :), like you need more hits j/k.

I agree, I have been a fan of whitespace since its implementation or shortly after its implementation. Its always been a clean site and his content is superb.

  3. Well we all know that Paul’s sites need all the help they can get, since no one wants to visit them for any other reason.

And I am not being sarcastic at all.

I say this as I have CSS Vault, Whitespace, and Business Logs open in other tabs :-\

  4. Ryan, I am often in that same boat :) and I don’t think I will dispute that a few thousand other designers are the same way.

  5. I always need more hits. Who doesn’t? Well maybe Yahoo, but this community is only so big you know? Gimme, gimme, gimme.

  6. Paul you get more hits than a community blunt at a Pink Floyd concert.

  7. Hey…dont think i am too picky..the heading should say ‘whitespace’ !! :)

  8. Hi, I am sorry but I dont see anything remarkable visually in this website (I dont judge the content). I love minimalism, but this one is perhaps a little too much? Anyway it is a personnal opnion

  9. Ryan, Sadish hit it right on the head man! I am commenting on a site called “Whitepace”. Heh, no wonder Sebastien doesn’t like it. I hate “Whitepace”.

  10. Just because it is not a the most visually appealing site I have ever listed on the site, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t deserve the right to be here.

It has always been, and still is one of the best designed sites for the content that it presents. That’s what Paul does best, I am not going to lie and say that he does the most attractive designs I have ever seen. However, his designs always suit the content and structure extremely well.

And I think that is an aspect of beauty in design that is often overlooked. Half of us can make sexy looking layouts all day long that would make whitespace look somewhat juvenile. But where those designs would dominate visually, they would most likely fail miserably in the structure and architecture of the information.

  11. I would have to say that the role of a designer is “not making things pretty,” but making things useful. Scrivs has made a highly useful site.

I would take WhiteSpace any day over any of the other “design blogs” because WhiteSpace lacks a sense of self-importance and mac-faginess which is all a good thing.
