Do You Think About Speed?

Very interesting discussions going on here and here about comments that Google’s Marissa Mayer made at the Web 2.0 conference. (Hat tip: Full : 1511.) Her bottom line was that the speed at which your site loads is still very important — critical even.

I’ll let you judge for yourself whether Google’s tests were sound, but do you ever think about download speed when designing and coding a site? I’ll admit that after being on broadband for many years now, the only time I think about page size is when something takes several seconds to download. Otherwise, it never crosses my mind. Particularly after Ms. Mayer’s business case, though, I’m again going to be thinking about it much more.
