Ever get the feeling that something is too good to be true? That’s the way I feel about Urbanfonts.com. They paid me for a review of their site of their site through ReviewMe, and I wasn’t expecting anything nearly as great as I found.

First, this is a great looking site. Maybe it isn’t Gallery-worthy, but it’s very pleasing to the eye. So I immediately had a good impression.

It only got better.

They have more than 8,000 freeware fonts ready for download. Now, admittedly, sorting through that many could be a nightmare. Not here, though. They have a ton of different ways to help you find that right font.

Let’s start with the basics and work up.

  • Browse by name.
  • Browse by category.
  • Browse by most popular.
  • Browse the top searches.
  • Browse new fonts.
  • Browse favorite fonts.

Vernon: Are you done yet?

Bender: Not. Even. Close. Buuuuuud.

They link to two more really cool tools.

The first is What The Font. It allows you to scan a font and upload it, and they then find the closest match.

The second is Identifont, which asks you a series of questions to find the right font.

All in all, a very cool site that I’m definitely going to remember.

I just recenlty came across Urban Fonts myself and thought it was a great resource. Of course when I actually saw my name in your post I was like, “Hey wait a second” just because it’s not the most common name. Thanks for the post and have a great one!

I like the switch from font name to “abcdefg…” when you roll over any font. Superb idea :-)
