While CSS is a relatively simple technology to learn, it is a difficult one to master. When you first start developing sites using CSS, you will come across all kinds of infuriating browser bugs and inconsistencies. It sometimes feels like there are a million and one different techniques to master, spread across a bewildering array of websites. The range of possibilities seems endless and makes for a steep and daunting learning curve.
By bringing all of the latest tips, tricks, and techniques together in one handy reference, this book demystifies the secrets of CSS and makes the journey to CSS mastery as simple and painless as possible. While most books concentrate on basic skills, this one is different, assuming that you already know the basics and why you should be using CSS in your work, and concentrating mainly on advanced techniques.
Whether you are new to web standards, or a seasoned veteran Designing with Web Standards has something that you could benefit from. This was one of those books that I didn't want to put down. When dealing with web standards, you will often find that books are written the way web standards are, kind of dull. But this book presents itself in a way where it's not as if you are reading the book, you are listening to an exciting speaker.
A great read. It as another one of those design books that doesn't read like one. It manages to give you a slew of information, while keeping you interested. If your looking to learn CSS and web standards, or add new skills to your bag of tricks, I highly recomend this one.
Accessibility and usability have always been something that I have fallen short on. After about 20 pages into this book, I began to realize that I had been using a less than perfect approach to design, and why they weren't the greatest methods. If you find yourself wondering how you can make your sites more accessiable and usable, this is a great starting point.
Can I write a review on this? No, I can't. I just ordered the book, and it has yet to be shipped. However, I have spent a few months waiting for this book to be released. How can I suggest this not having read it yet? Because as the editorail review states:
"By using the Zen Garden sites as examples of how CSS design techniques and approaches can be applied to specific Web challenges, authors Dave Shea and Molly Holzschlag provide an eye-opening look at the range of design methods made possible by CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)."
