Unmatched Style & Unmatched Themes

This is one set of the sites for sale in the Unmatched Sale. See that page for a full list of sites, as well as why I’m selling them.

History

I bought Unmatched Style from Ryan Latham in March of 2006. The site’s popularity has held strong, and the slight decline in traffic over the past few months is due primarily to lackluster effort on my part to continue its excellence. The site still carries a lot of weight online and could see dramatic increases across the board with small improvements by the right owners.

I started Unmatched Themes two months ago as a complement to Unmatched Style, and it’s much easier to manage. It’s simply a matter of combing through the thousands of available WordPress themes and showcasing the best ones.

Price

The highest bid of at least $9,000 before June 1 gets both sites. At this time, I will not consider splitting the pair since the branding is so similar. If the sites don’t sell, I’ll simply hold onto them.

Traffic Stats

The big spike was from being featured on Neil Patel’s blog in September. We have been tailing off since then, but traffic is still higher than this time last year. Traffic for this month is trending consistent with previous months.

Here are the complete traffic stats for each that month I owned the site. These stats are actual visitor stats as reported by Google Analytics, and do not include feed requests.

Feed Stats

While actual site traffic has tailed off, feed subscribers have continued to grow quite nicely. We’re currently at our highest subscriber level ever, and well more than double what it was at the time of the sale.

(The noticeable jumps in the subscriber counts earlier this year were because Google Reader started exposing their subscriber counts, which previously had not been available to FeedBurner.)

Visitor Locations

We have a very significant non-US visitor base. In fact, non-US visitors actually outnumber US visitors — with significant concentrations around the world, not just on a single continent. Click this map from April 2007 for a larger version.

Revenue Stats

I have never been able to get the kind of monthly revenue that Ryan reported getting ($600 - $700). However much changed with Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) between the time that he used it and the time that I did. My best performers have been direct ad deals and ReviewMe. ReviewMe, particularly, has been outstanding.

Here are full monthly revenue stats for the site since I’ve owned it, as well as the five months previous to the sale as reported by Ryan:

Unmatched Themes

Unmatched Themes saw 1,000 visits and 5,000 page views last month, but is already more than double that already in May. Traffic will continue to climb as the site gets more and more well known.

It hasn’t seen any notable revenue to date.
